Mahanoy City Fire Company Fights It's Own Fire Hours Before Convention

Through the fun and celebration of the 2013 Schuylkill County Fireman's Convention, there was a bit of remorse as well.  Hours before the start of the convention, The Washington Hook and Ladder of Mahanoy City was fighting a fire in it's own firehouse.

Calls came in around 4:30 am that smoke was showing from the firehouse.  Police were called in to initially investigate but when they arrived, flames were already showing.  They quickly called in the fire call but it was already too late for the firehouse and it's truck which it bought only back in 2011.

The fire itself is still under investigation.

Along with the apparatus, their meeting room and hall also sustained serious damage.

During the parade Saturday,  other companies from around the area showed their support for their fellow firemen.   Schuylkill Haven had signed on their front bumpers showing their support while Mahanoy City's West End Fire Company with large signs on either side of their trucks.

The Washington Fire Company still walked in the parade Saturday with all members holding their banner as they marched.

After the parade, the members of the fire company returned to their firehouse and were found sitting in a garage directly next to the fire.
