Happy National Pierogie Day

Today marked the 5th Annual Pierogie Day across America and we wouldn't even be having this day without a well-known company right here in Schuylkill County.

Mrs. T's Pierogies is the largest producer of frozen pierogies in the country.  From finger food to eating it as a main course, they are the perfect for any occasion.

Mrs. T's currently has 14 different varieties and are always in search of new combinations.

A little background on Mrs. T's for you
The company was founded in 1952 by Ted Twardzik, a Shenandoah native, based upon a recipe of his mother, Mary Twardzik, who made them as a fundraiser for church suppers. After he attended college, he was able to spend a year working for an accounting firm before he realized his mother's Polish specialty might have wider appeal. Ted returned home to Shenandoah, Pennsylvania and he began making Pierogies in the same kitchen where he grew up watching his mother cook. Over 13 million Pierogies in 14 varieties leave Ateeco’s kitchens every week. After six weeks his Mom asked him to move the mess elsewhere, and that is where the history began. One of the company's most popular promotions is the Great Pierogi Race at home games of the Pittsburgh Pirates of Major League Baseball.

Whether you are just mixing them with butter, adding some onions, or throwing a piece of bacon on top, they are good with anything.

How do you like your pierogies?
