A woman is displaced after a fire destroyed her Mahanoy City home Tuesday morning.

At about 10:45 am Tuesday, firefighters from Mahanoy City and surrounding communities were dispatched to a residential structure fire at the address at 1202 East Pine Street.

Initial reports stated there was possible entrapment, however arriving units quickly determined everyone had exited the home prior to fire department arrival. Fire crews were quick to find and extinguish a small fire in the basement of the 2 1/2 story, wood frame row-home. Tony Blackwell, Administrative Assistant. & Safety Officer, said that the fire didn’t spread to any other sections of the home. He reported that the home is owned by Christina and Daniel Wetzel, 1200 E. Pine St., Mahanoy City. The Wetzels rent it to Christina’s mother, Peg Palavich who was home at the time of the fire and was able to exit the home safely.

Fire Chief Randy Kalce commended the quick response of fire crews, especially during the daytime when many voluteers are at work. All Mahanoy City fire and EMS companies responded along with the Frackville Fire Department.

Blackwell said the cause of the fire is still under investigation. A Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was requested to assist in the investigation.
