Beginning August 1st, Schuylkill Musicians will begin writing blogs featuring musicians from around the county.
In late January of 2010 The Schuylkill County Musicians Group was started. Originally the page was a place to show off and remember all the great music to come out of the area. Four years later Schuylkill Musicians is that and so much more. This is why we are very happy to bring to the people of Skook News the best of Skook Music and maybe even show some people that Schuylkill County still produces some of the absolute best and talented artists the world sees.
Our group still has all those great photos and has added more and more, including the instruments of local talent. In June of 2011 we took the next step and decided to start what we refer to as the “Featured Band of the month” which started with the phenomenal local band the “Poptart Monkeys”. Since then we have featured the absolute best in Skook music including Sterling Koch, Toolshed Jack and the Members of the Collins Family. In April of 2012 Skook solo acts were added to their own features. To date there has been 20 features on our page.
Featuring bands is not all our group does though. Since day one (and going back to his myspace page) our founding member has been posting and sharing where and who were playing in the area. Today the SM’s facebook page has monthly posts of upcoming live local performances. These shows include bands, plays, open mic nights, high school musicals and any benefits we are made aware of. To keep these shows in the spot light there are also posts for Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Music in Skook has always been a machine in itself and with increasing traffic at facebook.com/skookpamusic that this year we added special groups for individuals looking to buy and sell music instruments and music related items (Schuylkill Musicians: For Sale) as well as a special group named “Musician to Musician: by Schuylkill Musicians” This is a place to find like-minded people to get together and “jam” with, bands looking for new members or people looking for new projects to join.
Schuylkill Musicians has been and always will be here for musicians and to bring the world of music to the people of Skook and the world. Featuring bands and artists, giving artists a place to show off each other’s equipment, connecting musicians to others and promoting as many shows as are made aware of. You never know where tomorrow will bring us and Schuylkill Music.
