Margaret Gabuzda, 89, Mahanoy City, passed away Tuesday, August 26th, at Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield, Virginia, where she had lived for several years.

Margaret was born in Mahanoy City, PA, on April 26, 1925, a daughter of the late Mary (Wargo) and John Getcy.

She graduated from Mahanoy City High School and had worked in the local garment industry.

Margaret was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America serving at various times as Regent, Vice Regent and Secretary of the local Mahanoy City chapter. She was a member of the Golden Agers, the former Assumption BVM and St. Casimir Choirs, as well as special community choirs. She was also a former teacher of CCD classes at Assumption BVM Church and enjoyed volunteering in decorating the sanctuary there.

More recently, she was a member of the Greenspring Choristers and the Greenspring Chime Choir in Springfield, VA. She was also a volunteer at the Greenspring Treasure Chest, a second-hand store which raises money for charitable causes, as well as at the Greenspring Chapel as a greeter and in preparing the altar.

She was the wife of the late George Gabuzda, who passed away in 1996.

Margaret is survived by daughters Joan Reese-Giesman, wife of the late Edward Giesman, Galloway OH; and Marie Klawiter, wife of Donald, Falls Church, VA. Grandchildren Melissa (Reese) Wehr, married to Mark Wehr; Joseph and Jeffrey Klawiter; and great-grandchildren Will Wehr, Aubrey Wehr and Nate Wehr.

She is also survived by a sister Dolly Leonidas, brother in-law Jack Thompson, sister-in-law Natalie Gabuzda, and many nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 30, 11 AM at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Mahanoy City, PA, with Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher officiating.

Friends may call at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Parish from 10 AM until time of Mass.
