Six People Taken to Hospital After Head-On Collision in Hometown Monday

An estimated six people, 4 of which under the age of 18, were taken to the hospital following a head-on collision at the intersection of Tide Road and Claremont Avenue (SR309) around 6:15 PM, Monday, August 11, 2014. A witness said a woman was ejected from one of the vehicles during the crash.

A Medivac helicopter landed at the parking lot to the Hometown (HT) Commons Shopping Center and WalMart Supercenter to transport one of the six to the hospital.

Involved were a maroon Dodge Stratus sedan and a grey Chrysler LSH sedan. Although not confirmed, a witness said four people (to include 1 adult) were in the Dodge and 2 people (to include 1 adult) were in the Chrysler. Both vehicles suffered heavy frontal damage. A dual crosswalk sign was also knocked down in the crash. During the incident, a number of bystanders could be seen comforting some of the younger victims.

Responding were Rush Township Police, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Ryan Township Rescue Squad, Hometown Fire Company, Tamaqua Ambulance, McAdoo Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, and others.

Hometown and Quakake Fire Police controlled traffic around the scene for the duration. Hope’s Towing and Collision removed both vehicles.

Rush Township police officer Jeff Tanner is the investigating officer. Due to the amount of people affected, no press release has been issued yet. This information is not confirmed yet. Check this story later for updates or more details.
