Man Dies in Two Vehicle Accident on Route 309 in Hometown

A Hazle Twp. man died from his injuries suffered in a two vehicle accident on Route 309 Wednesday afternoon.


Andrew W. Woytko, 83, of Hazle Township, succumbed to injuries following a two-vehicle accident today (Wednesday, October 1, 2014) at the intersection of Lincoln Drive (SR1021) and Claremount Avenue (SR309) in Hometown. Rush Township Police Sergeant Duane Frederick said Rosanne Levitt, 29, Lansford, was traveling south on SR309 in a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze when Woytko, driving at 2003 Ford Taurus, pulled out of Basile’s Restaurant to go north on SR309. Woytko’s vehicle was struck in the southbound lanes of travel. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

A passenger in Woytko’s vehicle was taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital in Hazleton. Levitt was taken via ambulance to St Luke’s Hospital – Miners Campus for unknown injuries.

At one point, both directions of SR309 were backed up almost a mile while emergency personnel attended to the victims and police investigated the accident.

Responding were Rush Township Police, Ryan Township Police, Tamaqua Rescue Squad, Hometown Fire Company, Quakake Fire Company, Tamaqua Ambulance, Lehighton Ambulance, fire police and others.

The accident is still under investigation. Corporal Adam Sinton is the investigating officer.
