Home Damaged by Fire in Mahanoy City Tuesday Morning; Homeowner rescued from Second Floor

Around 3:30 am Tuesday morning, emergency personnel were called to 12 South D Street, in Mahanoy City for a working structure fire.


When crews arrived they found fire in the rear of the home with heavy smoke throughout the rest of the house.

Due to the rapid response of fireman, the fire was contained to one home and was under control within 30 minutes.

The homeowner had to be rescued from the second floor bedroom window by neighbors.

One firefighter was reported to have minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

The home received significant fire, smoke and water damage. Fire crews remained on the scene for approximately 2 hours to ensure complete extinguishment.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A PA State Police Fire Marshal has been requested to investigate the cause of the fire.

The home had previously sustained smoke damage from the New Year’s Eve fire at 14 S. D. St.
