Thomas Announces Campaign for Pottsville School Board

A former Pottsville Area School board member announced he is seeking a return to the board.

Scott R. Thomas, who currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Schuylkill County Zoning Hearing Board, announced his bid to seek election to the the school board post.  Thomas was a member from 2009 until 2013, when he chose not to seek re-election but instead run for Mayor of the City of Pottsville.

Thomas released the following statement Friday morning,

“Over the last several weeks and months many of you have reached out to me and encouraged me to seek one of the five school board openings this upcoming. Throughout the holiday season, I have given this much thought and consideration. I've talked to my closest friends and family. There is no doubt that I love the Pottsville Area School District, the teachers and staff. With that being said, I will be seeking the Republican and Democratic nomination for School Director in the 2015 primary election. If elected, I will again be a voice for the taxpayers, I will sit down with parents, teachers, and students to listen to their concerns and their ideas of how to continue to provide excellent service which the Pottsville Area School District has always provided. I ask for your help, encouragement, and support.”

Thomas recently made news back in September and October of 2014 when he spoke out about a recent hiring of a supervisor within the district.

Five current board members' terms will be expiring.
