Knoebels' Opens This Saturday

LAKEWOOD PARK, ANGELA PARK, DREAM CITY PARK, ROCKY GLEN PARK, EDGEWOOD PARK ARE NOW JUST MEMORIES. BUT 1 PARK REMAINS THAT IS AMERICA'S LARGEST FREE ADMISSION PARK.

Knoebel's can trace its roots back 240 years to March 7, 1775 when Governor John Penn signed a deed transferring 282 acres of land known as "Peggy's Farm" to John Salter--land that would later become Knoebel's Grove.

In 1828, Reverend Hartman Henry Knoebel purchased that land which eventually passed down to his grandson of the same name. There, the younger Henry developed a lumbering & sawmill business.

Roaring Creek, which ran through the center of the land, drew the locals' attention seeking a place to relax & cool off on hot summer days. While folks enjoyed picnics & jumping off the covered bridge into the swimming hole, Ole Hen saw opportunity. He offered to feed & care for the horses parked on his farm for 25¢.

That swimming hole sparked an idea for Henry. In November, 1925 he began construction of a large pool in the same spot where Crystal Pool is today. On July 4, 1926, Knoebels officially opened.

From the beginning, families wanted to spend time in Knoebels forested beauty. Many built cottages along the banks of Roaring Creek, several of which remain today. Others camped on the Knoebels’ grounds. It wasn’t until 1963 that Knoebels introduced
its 1st 6 official campsites. Since then that campground has grown to encompass over 550 sites & 57 log cabins. In 1996, Knoebels acquired the nearby Lake Glory Campground.

Today, Knoebels Amusement Resort offers free parking, free daily entertainment, & free picnic facilities. From family rides to kiddie rides to thrill rides that include nationally recognized roller coasters, Knoebels has plenty for everyone. Take a dip in its 900,000 gallon Crystal Pool filled with refreshing mountain stream water. The pool area includes watersides, diving boards & play area for young children.

Stay overnight at 1 of 2 campgrounds that include cabins & over 800 campsites for tents & campers, or one of their cottages. In addition to over 60 rides, award winning food, swimming, games, & gift shops, visitors can add a round of golf at Knoebels 3 Ponds Golf Club next door to the park.

At Knoebels, you can still make new memories the ol' fashion way. Visit their website: www.knoebels.com for more info. What brings you back to Knoebels year after year? Does Knoebels remind you of amusement parks you remember from the 50s, 60s, & 70s? Share your thoughts below.
