Frackville Man Assaulted on Halloween Night

A Frackville man is recovering after being assaulted on Halloween night.

According to Frackville Borough Police, they have arrested Daniel Merva, of Shenandoah after he reportedly assaulted John Gallagher on the 100 Block of South Center Street, Halloween Night.


John Gallagher, who suffers from early onset Alzheimer's, was injured so badly he ended up in ICU.

At the time of the incident, witnesses had told police that Gallagher was assaulted by one or two men.

A police investigation showed that Gallagher approached a group of individuals on South Center  and appeared to intoxicated.  The group and Gallagher shared words when Gallagher then pushed at least one person prior to being struck.

Merva was later interviewed by police were he admitted hitting Gallagher.

Merva was charged on November 4th with Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Harassment.

Merva was released on bail and a preliminary hearing is scheduled with Magisterial Judge Christina Hale.
