On this day, 80 years ago, December 7th, 1935, Ashland High School won the Pennsylvania State High School Football Championship.

The Ashland High Black Diamonds defeated the Altoona High Mountain Lions 6-2.

The Ashland Downtown commemorated the team earlier this year with a sign and plaque on November 1st at Memorial Field in the borough.

Ashland Downtown Member Bill Farley told Skook News, "Dec. 7, 1935, is a day which will live in infamy for the Altoona High School football team and their fans. For on that day, the Ashland High School football team traveled to Mansion Park in Altoona to play for the 1935 Pennsylvania State Football Championship."
