Police Discover Heroin While Serving Warrants

(05/17/16) On Monday, Schuylkill Haven Borough Police Department were assigned to a warrant detail. The purpose of the detail is to serve outstanding warrants for previous arrests made by the Department in which the defendant has failed in responding to charges.


At approx. 4:45 pm, Schuylkill Haven Borough Police Officers went to 1007 W. Market St. in the City of Pottsville in an attempt to serve one of these outstanding warrants. Contact was made with the homeowner and officers were permitted inside.

Once inside the residence, officers observed a male later identified as Courtney Roberts attempting to conceal something under a blanket. When officers investigated, they found (100) bags of Heroin. Additional items found in a stereo speaker in the same room were a .22 caliber Derringer pistol not registered to anyone inside the residence, (24) large baggies of Marijuana, $842 cash, (40) bags of Heroin, (1) additional baggie containing 10 grams of uncut Heroin, a scale, marijuana grinder and an abundance of empty white wax paper baggies used for packaging Heroin.

Pottsville City Police units arrived on scene and assisted Schuylkill Haven officers with arresting two males, Keshon Canyon, 24, of Pottsville and Courtney Roberts, 27,  of New Jersey. Officers from both Departments also removed the drug and gun evidence found inside the residence which was also occupied by two small children and their mother. 

Canyon was arraigned on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver, Former convict not to own a firearm, Possession of drugs, Possession of drug paraphernalia and Endangering welfare of children. Roberts was arraigned on charges of Possession with Intent to Deliver, Possession of drugs and Possession of drug paraphernalia. 

Both men were arraigned by on call District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua. Bail was set at $50,000 straight for Canyon and $25,000 straight for Roberts. 

Neither man was able to post bail and were remanded to Schuylkill County Prison.

Earlier in the afternoon Schuylkill Haven Borough Police along with Pottsville City Police were successful in serving a felony warrant for Possession with Intent to Deliver charges on Gavin Allen of Schuylkill Haven. Allen was found at 20 Peacock Street in the City, taken into custody without incident and placed in the Schuylkill County Prison.
