Veterans Speak to Students on the Importance of Memorial Day

On Friday morning, Schuylkill County veterans spoke to students of the North Schuylkill School District.

Each year, the North Schuylkill School District puts on programs for students to honor those in the military that gave everything for our country. On Friday, special assemblies were held at the high school, and elementary school.

At the High School, a special program will took place in which local members of Ashland's VFW spoke with students. A special performance by North Schuylkill’s Treble Makers, were also on hand to sing patriotic songs.

At the elementary school, an assembly was held in the gymnasium for 5th and 6th graders where the veterans explained the importance of Memorial Day, the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and how our country began to celebrate it. An essay was also read that was written by a student on the importance of freedom.

After the assembly students boarded school buses that took them to area cemeteries to place flags on Veteran's Graves.
