Schuylkill County, PA (June 30, 2016) The Walk In Art Center, 220 Parkway, Schuylkill Haven has applied to The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts to become a regional Folk and Traditional Arts Center for Berks, Carbon and Schuylkill Counties and is reaching out to all folk and traditional artists in the area to help create this center.
On Wednesday, July 13, 2016, from 9am – 3pm, all folk and traditional artists are invited to a gathering of artists, educators, folklorists and community leaders on the second Floor of the Walk In Art Center(wheelchair accessible). Folklorists, Carrie and Michael Kline will help guide the conversation and share their vast knowledge with the group.

Some discussion items on the agenda include mapping assets, discovering the benefits of collaboration throughout the county and building an association that will become a home for folk and traditional artists. Lunch will be provided and the gathering is free to attend.

“Our area is rich in traditional and folk art and we want to celebrate and keep these traditions alive and preserve them for future generations, said Lisa Robinson, Executive Director of The Walk In Art Center. “Our first ever Folk Art Festival was held the first weekend in June and showcased many types of folk art and the community responded in a very positive way. We want to keep the momentum going and this July gathering will accomplish just that!”

The Walk In Art Center’s mission is to inspire, equip and celebrate the cultural and creative talent in the area. For more information contact Lisa Robinson, Executive Director, The Walk In Art Center, 570-732-3728, www.walkinartcenter.com.
