PennDOT Warns Race Fans Travelling Through Schuylkill County to Pocono This Weekend

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) reminds race fans traveling to Pocono Raceway and others traveling to the Pocono Mountain region this weekend that single lane conditions exist on I-81 northbound and southbound in Schuylkill County between the Lebanon County line and Exit 104 (PA 125).

Traffic volumes are expected to be larger than usual this weekend and significant delays are expected on I-81 in Schuylkill County.

Motorists traveling north to the Pocono Mountain region from I-81 may wish to travel on I-78 east to the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-476) north as an alternate route. Motorists traveling south from the Pocono Mountain region may wish to travel on the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-476) south to I-78 west as an alternate route.

The lanes are restricted on I-81 for a $43,894,275 highway repair project that began in March and goes until May 2017. Work includes placing an unbonded concrete overlay, interchange improvements at Exits 100 (PA 443) and 104 (PA 125), guiderail updates, signage updates, new pavement markings, brush/tree cutting, and other miscellaneous construction.
