Truck Driver Dies in Interstate 81 Crash Thursday Morning; Multiple Injured

A truck driver died Thursday morning in an early morning crash on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.



Around 4:45am, a tractor trailer lost control and rolled near Milemarker 126 in the Southbound lanes of Interstate 81, just north of Frackville.


When the crash occurred, a motor home rear-ended another slowing tractor trailer.  Several other tractor trailers then began crashing behind the second crash flipping another tractor trailer.

It is being reported that a driver of one of the tractor trailers in the third crash died and was pronounced dead at the scene.  A name has not been released at this time.

Reports say that it was raining heavily at the time of the crash.

As of 9:30am, Interstate 81 southbound is closed at the Mahanoy City exit.  Traffic is being diverted onto Morea Road, through Frackville and back onto Interstate 81 at the Frackville exit.

Multiple people were also injured in the crash but none life-threatening.

UPDATE:  12:15PM - The Interstate has now reopened.

UPDATE:  1:10PM - The truck driver that died in Thursday morning's crash has been identified as
Edward Rosario, of Tobyhanna.  He was pronounced by Schuylkill County Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky.
