Woman Charged with Homicide By Vehicle

On Monday, Ashland Borough Police charged Ashley Leibig, of Ashland after an investigation in a crash that killed an elderly man in December of 2015.


Leibig was charged by Ashland Borough Patrolman Brandon Cohick and Chief Mark O'Hearn felony counts of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, homicide by vehicle; accidents involving death or personal injury; accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed; misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person; driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance and summary charges of careless driving, right of way of pedestrians in a crosswalk, reckless driving and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

Ashland Police say Leibig was driving a vehicle that struck and killed 85 year old Walter Bogus of Shamokin as he crossed the street at the intersection of 19th & Centre Streets.  Leibig was taken for chemical testing which yielded a positive result for the presence of marijuana in her system.

Leibig was arraigned Monday afternoon by Magisterial District Judge Christina Hale, Frackville and committed to Schuylkill County Prison in lieu of $150,000 Straight Cash Bail.

The Pennsylvania State Police assisted  in the investigation with an accident reconstruction.
