Emily L. Lurwick, age 84, of Port Carbon, PA passed away Thursday, October 13th, 2016 at her home.
Born in Port Carbon, PA on December 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James and Hannah (Williams) Thomas.
Emily was a graduate of Soldier's Memorial High School in Port Carbon, Class of 1949. She first worked as an operator for Bell Telephone in Pottsville and then as a material handler for H.L. Miller and Sons in Port Carbon.
Emily was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Port Carbon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 28 years, William J. Lurwick on March 16, 1983, a daughter Deborah Tohill, and a brother Jackie Thomas.
Emily is survived by a son William Lurwick and his wife Karen, Schuylkill Haven; a daughter Brenda Herndon and her husband Bucky, Port Carbon; son-in-law Gary Tohill, Pottstown; 6 grandchildren: Jake, Mike, and Ellen Lurwick, Cody Herndon, Alison Michaels, and Patrick Tohill; 3 great-grandchildren: Henry Lurwick and Cailey and Adalyn Michaels; a sister Georgine Heberling, Port Carbon; a brother James Thomas, Chatham, NJ; and nieces and nephews.
A Religious Service will be held at the Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St., Port Carbon at 10:30AM on Monday, October 17th, with Rev. Lorraine Heckman officiating.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Sunday evening from 6-8PM and Monday morning from 9:30-10:30AM at the Funeral Home.
Interment will be held in the Schuylkill Memorial Park Cemetery in Schuylkill Haven.

He was born on Thursday, December 27, 1934, in Barry Twp, PA, a son of the late Roy Header and the late Mary Kehler Header.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda Updegrave and her husband Rodger of Hegins, Zena R Header and her husband Gary Connor of Durham, NC; two sons, Clyde R Header, Jr of Timber Lake, NC and Wendell Header of Durham, NC; nine grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; his companion Jane Mortiz of Durham, NC; two brothers, Virden "Pee Wee" Header of Barry Twp, Ivan Header of Sunbury; four sisters, Violet Tschopp and Ellen Steel both of Lykens, Ruth Paul of Reading, and Anna Erdman of Northumberland.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at Salem Cemetery, Ashland, on Saturday, October 22, 2016, at 2:00 pm, with Rev. Don E Carl officiating.
Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements.
