Schuylkill Officials Comment on Trump Election

This week's election of Donald Trump and the pros and cons of what followed truly made this week one of the most historic moments for our country.

The election though hit close to home for Schuylkill County where we seen large turnouts with some polling centers seeing turnouts near 75%.

While the popular vote for Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton was close overall for the nation, but Trump defeated Clinton in a landslide within Schuylkill County.  The Wall Street Journal even reported that Donald Trump received 3 times the amount of votes in this election compared to Mitt Romney in 2012.

The coal region of Pennsylvania has been said to have helped in Trump's victory.

We reached out to some of our local officials to give their take on President Elect Donald Trump's victory.

Brock Stein, Chairman of the Schuylkill County Republican Committee
Schuylkill County had tremendous voter turnout, and President-elect Trump won in every precinct in the County. The Schuylkill County Republican Committee wishes President-elect Trump the very best and looks forward to maintaining the momentum this election has created.

George Halcovage, Schuylkill County Commissioner
In recent years, the American working class had been too long ignored and disenfranchised. Last night was a resounding victory for the working class and our Schuylkill County values. It was a beautiful example of democracy in action. The voice of the people was heard. Donald Trump spoke to all of us who have felt that real changes were needed in Washington, DC. Jobs, healthcare, safety and trustworthiness are extremely important. We that serve in government are public servants and need to respect the voice of all those we represent. For those of you who had hoped for a different outcome, I understand and respect your disappointment. However, it is now time for us to heal and unite. We show that bipartisanship on a local basis and we now need to show that it can be done nationally as well. Congratulations, President-Elect Trump! Let's Make America Great Again and God Bless America!

Frank Staudenmeier, Schuylkill County Commissioner
“This was obviously a historic election---one for the ages---I am very pleased with the results & that Donald Trump is our President------I strongly believe that his first priority is to reach out to “all” the people to begin to unify this great country of ours”

Christine Holman, Schuylkill County District Attorney
This had to be the most divisive election in modern history and I am proud to be a part of his obtaining the electoral votes for Pennsylvania.

I take Trump’s slogan “make America great again” to heart and am encouraged and excited about the future –it won’t just be business or should I say, “politics” as usual.
