Police Respond to False Gunshot Call

ASHLAND - Ashland Police were dispatched to 139 Centre Street in Ashland for a report of shots fired with a male shot at that location on Wednesday December 21st at 724am. 

According to Police Chief Mark O'Hearn, Ashland Police along with units from Butler Township, Frackville, Mount Carmel Township, Mount Carmel Borough, West Mahanoy Township and Sheriff Joseph Groody responded to the location. 

Police arrived at the scene and spoke with the Person who had called 911 reporting the incident and had to clear an apartment building before questioning the caller further and finding several discrepancies in her story. 

The report of gunshots was proven to be unfounded and the female caller was transported by Police to Schuylkill medical center South for a medical evaluation. Police say that charges of false alarms to agencies of public safety and additional charges will be pending.  

The name of the female who reported the incident is being held at this time.

Police Looking for Burglary Suspect from Reading

On Friday December 23, 2016 Pottsville Bureau of Police officers were called to a residential burglar alarm at 1603 W. Mahantongo Street.

Upon arrival and contact with the residence key holder, it was discovered that someone had gained illegal entry into the home and fled prior to police arrival.

An investigation including the use of surveillance footage video led to the identification of Jonah Modesto, 35,  of Reading as being the actor who broke into the residence.

An arrest warrant was obtained by Ptlm Bryce Lewis charging Modesto with attempted Burglary, Criminal Trespass and Theft.

Anyone with information as the current whereabouts of Modesto is asked to call the Pottsville Police at 570-628-3792.

No Injuries Reported in Interstate 81 Crash

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, around 11:30am on 12/26/16, a crash occurred near Milemarker 122.3 in the Northbound Lanes of Interstate 81.

Police say Daryl Spak, 27, of Binghampton, NY, was travelling north when he lost control of his vehicle due to icy road conditions, went off the right side of the highway and overturned his vehicle onto it's roof.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage, but Spak was not injured.

The Friendship Fire Company, Minersville Fire, and Frackville EMS also assisted at the scene.
