Man Leads Police in Chase in Stolen Vehicle

On Thursday, around 10:40pm, Shenandoah Police responded to a radio dispatch to 8 East Centre St where a vehicle was stolen.

The complainant advised police that he left his vehicle running with the keys inside it.

Police searched the area and located the stolen vehicle on East Coal St. 

The complainant was contacted and arrived on scene moments later. The complainant indicated that items were missing from the vehicle.

Then around 11:40pm, Police received a radio dispatch to the 200 block of West Coal St for a disturbance in progress. The complainant indicated there was a male in a green Subaru honking his horn and revving his engine in the street blocking traffic.

Police arrived on scene and observed the described vehicle in the roadway blocking traffic, revving its engine and honking its horn.

The Subaru was blocking the roadway and traffic was backed up behind it. Police attempted to make contact with the driver of the Subaru but the vehicle accelerated to a high rate of speed and fled the scene.

Police caught up to the vehicle and located it parked off the road in a dirt lot in Mahanoy Township.The male, identified as Benito Reynoso was taken into custody and Police learned that the Subaru was stolen from the City of Hazleton.

Police located items on Reynoso from the vehicle which was stolen from East Centre St.

Reynoso was arraigned by the on call District Magistrate Judge Bayer for the following: theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, careless driving, reckless driving, Fleeing and attempting to Elude police, resisting arrest, driving while suspended, driving without a license and numerous other traffic violations which occurred in the Borough. Reynoso was unable to post the $50,000 straight cash bail and was committed to the Schuylkill County Prison.
