Pasquale A. "Pat" Pilo, age 92, of Palo Alto, PA passed away Monday, January 16th, 2017 at Schuylkill Center in Pottsville.

Born in Palo Alto, PA on February 6, 1924, he was the son of the late Levi and Camille (Maccarone) Pilo.

Pat served in the U.S. Army as a T/4 in 852nd Ordnance Heavy Automotive maintenance Company in WW II.
He worked as a machinist at H.L. Miller and Sons in Port Carbon for 33 years until retiring in 1986.

Pat was a member of the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon, a member of the American Sons of Italy Club and the Citizen's Fire Company, both located in Palo Alto.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mary A. (Gerace) Pilo on January 22, 2014, 2 brothers: Anthony and Albert Pilo, and 3 sisters: Mary Carestia, Anna Merlino, and Yolanda Walsh.

Pat is survived by a son Anthony A. Pilo and his wife Karen K, Pottsville; a daughter Camille L. Mattera and her husband Frank J., Pottsville; 4 grandchildren: Christina Diehl, Steven Mattera and his wife Yvonne, Michael Pilo, and Gina Austerberry and her husband Matthew; 3 great-grandchildren: Blake, Jacob, and Cameron; a brother Joseph L. Pilo, Auburn; a sister Flavia McGovern and her husband John, Palo Alto; 2 sisters-in-law: Marie Gerace and Theresa Pilo, both of NJ; a brother-in-law Mario Merlino, Moscow;and nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in Port Carbon at 11AM on Friday, January 20th, with Rev. Edward Connolly officiating.

Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday 6-8PM and Friday 9:30-10:30AM at Robert A. Evans Jr. Funeral Home, 208 Pike St. Port Carbon.

Interment with Military Honors will be held in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Pottsville.

Clarence "Buzz" Rebuck Jr., 71 of Ashland, PA passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Schuylkill Center, Pottsville, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer for seven years.

Born in Ashland, PA December 25, 1945 the son of the late Clarence and Anna Egen Rebuck. Buzz attended Ashland High School, Class of 1964 and served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Ashland, He was a past president of the Ashland Kiwanis Club, a member of the PA Manufacturing Assoc., Schuylkill Manufacturing Assoc, Ashland Elks, Goodfellowship Club, Schuylkill Chamber, Ashland Chamber, and a member of former FTCC. He retired from Tri-State Envelope Corp as Vice President of Manufacturing in 2012, after 40 years. He was an avid golfer having won many trophies and had 3 holes in one. 

He loved traveling and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He had many friends and enjoyed being with the guys. 

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Marylee O'Neil Rebuck. A daughter and a son: Meredith wife of Leon Zilker, Frackville and Tom Rebuck,Frackville. Three grandchildren: Brady, Aiden, and Madeline Zilker. He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Rita Bernosky, Girardville; Betty Ann Major, Gordon; Robert Rebuck, Brunswick, PA; and Jack Rebuck, New Castle, DE. Nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Preceding him in death were two sisters and two brothers: Gertrude Wagner; Rose Mary Harner; Jim "Abbadaba" Rebuck; and Thomas Rebuck.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Ashland, Rev. Paul Rothermel officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family. Viewing Friday, January 20, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Kull-Heizenroth Funeral Home, Ashland and Saturday, January 21 from 9:30-10:45 AM at St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Ashland.

Claire N. Rumpf, 80, of Wood St., Pine Grove, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in the Tremont Health & Rehab Center.

Born on October 14, 1936 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late Edwin F. and Violet DeLong Hubler.

Claire worked as a cashier for the former Gooseberry Farms, Pine Grove.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Kenneth J. "Skip" Rumpf; a daughter, Sharon Kohr; 2 granddaughters, Tina Dillon and Jill Rumpf; a great granddaughter Cassidy Rumpf; 2 sisters, Beulah Bickel and Anna Leffler; 4 brothers, Grant Hubler, Earl Hubler, Samuel Hubler, Willard Hubler.

Surviving are 6 daughters, Suzi Maurer and companion Norm Gerhart, Jane (Chuck) Yoder, Stephanie Rumpf and companion Jeff, all of Pine Grove, Sandie (Scott) Jenkins of Tower City, Melissa (Chris) Evans of N. Carolina and Darlene (Charles) Swartz of Grantville; 2 sons, Jeffery (Lynette) Rumpf, Bruce (Sharon) Rumpf, both of Pine Grove; 22 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a brother, Harvey Hubler of Pine Grove.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Noon from the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove with Pastor Rod Finster officiating. There will be a viewing on Saturday, January 21, 2017, from 11:00 A.M. until time of service at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.

Marguerite G. (Wood) Rooney, 90, formerly of Lost Creek, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning at Genesis HealthCare-Schuylkill Center, Pottsville.

Born in Lost Creek, Oct. 1, 1926, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Nellie Dean Wood.

Marguerite was a graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School, Shenandoah Heights.

She was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, formerly St. Mary Magdalene Church, Lost Creek, where she was a choir member and participated in the numerous church minstrel shows. She was a representative for Renew 2000, a parish spiritual evangelization program. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Cecelia 1529, Girardville, for over 60 years. Marguerite was actively involved with the former Cardinal Brennan Mother’s Guild during her children’s high school years. She thoroughly enjoyed attending all the sporting events and school functions in which her grandchildren participated. She was an avid sports fan and enjoyed rooting for her grandchildren; in addition, she delighted and appreciated watching their talents in the annual plays and musicals.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, John F. Rooney, on March 4, 2013; two infant children, Martin and Mary Bridget Rooney; one grandson, Colin B. Rooney; four brothers, Thomas “Snapper,” Anthony “Hank,” Patrick and John “Chucker” Wood and one sister, Mary Schnee.

Surviving are one daughter, Nellie Kempsey, wife of Patrick, Catasauqua; four sons, Jack Rooney and his wife, Lisa, Shenandoah, Brian Rooney and his wife, Kathie, Shenandoah, Tom Rooney, Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Francis Rooney and his wife, Lisa, Shenandoah; 11 grandchildren, Patrick Kempsey and his wife, Sarah, Brian Kempsey, Dane, Leanne and Evan Rooney, Stephen Chatcavage and his wife, Janelle, Brian and Christopher Rooney, Bridget, Curtis and Eric Rooney; a great-grandson, Lucas Chatcavage; one brother, Terrance Dean Wood and his wife, Kathryn, Hellertown; one sister, Alice McDonald, Annandale, Virginia; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S. Jardin St., Shenandoah. A Mass of Christian Burial will then be celebrated at noon in St. Casimir’s Church, the sacred worship site of Divine Mercy Parish, 229 N. Jardin St., Shenandoah. The Rev. Robert T. Finlan will officiate. Interment will follow in the Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday.

Gretchen (Schenck) Asbury, age 58, of Summer Valley Rd., New Ringgold, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital, Bethlehem.

She is survived by her husband: of 42 years, Kelly M. Asbury.

Gretchen was a member of Christ Church of McKeansburg.

She earned her elementary and secondary teaching degree from Penn State University.

She was a homemaker who adored her grandchildren.

She was the daughter of George Schenck and Penny (Macmurdo) Schenck.

She is also survived by her

Hank Gardner and his wife Patrice of New Jersey;
Jon Schenck of Hagerstown, MD;

Three Grandchildren,
Elijah, Bradley and Jonathan.

She was preceded in death by her son, Russel B. Asbury on 5-29-2004.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Robert S. Nester Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. 2066 West Penn Pike, New Ringgold, PA.

Interment will be at Christ Church Cemetery, McKeansburg.
