Kathryn M. "Kitty" Salmon, age 87, of Park Crest, died Friday morning at her home. Born in Boston Run she was the daughter of the late John and Elsie ( Hulsman) Hanlon. Kitty was a graduate of Mahanoy Township High School and a proud member of the majorette squad for the Purple Larks. She was an avid bingo player and loved to frequent the Atlantic City casinos. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mahanoy City and also the Mahanoy City Senior Citizens. Kitty was employed by the General Cigar Factory in Mahanoy City for many years and later on worked for the American Tobacco Company in Mountain Top. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Francis in 1971, four sisters Anne Youch, Gertrude Soult, Elizabeth Kufro and Rose Jones, and three brothers John Hanlon and James Hanlon and William Herrity. Kitty is survived by a son James at home, a daughter Sally Gennarini and her husband Ron of Shenandoah Heights, a grandson Jamie Gennarini and his wife Heather of Shenandoah Heights, and a granddaughter Tracy Bro and her husband Dan of Barnesville, five great grandchildren Amanda, Nicole, Felicia, Carson and Anthony. She is also survived by a sister Marie Repella of Mahanoy City.


Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral on Wednesday morning at 10:30 AM from the David D. Jarrett Funeral Home of Mahanoy City. The Rev. Fred T. Crawford will officiate. Interment will follow in the German Protestant Cemetery in Mahanoy Township. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning beginning at 8:30 AM. Gloria Lorraine Becker, 92 of Pine Grove, passed away on Saturday, April 15, at the Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon.

Born on May 22, 1924 in Pottsville, she was a daughter of the late William and Mamie Evans.

Gloria was a graduate of Pottsville High School and served as an Army Cadet Nurse from 1943-1946. She was a Registered Nurse who did private duty nursing at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Pottsville, and the Tremont Health and Rehab. Center and was the nurse at various Church Camps and the Lighthouse Camp.

She was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Pine Grove, sang in the choir and a had been a member of the Good Will Class.

Preceding her in death were her husband of 58 years, Milton C. Becker on January 23, 2009, a Granddaughter, Pamela Barr, a Brother, John Evans, and a Sister, Ruth Wertz.

Surviving are a Son, Daniel Sr. and wife Charmaine Becker of Pine Grove, Daughter, Beth Ann Bates of Lebanon, five grandchildren, Scott & wife Jill Barr, Daniel Jr. &wife Alison Becker, Justin Bates, Tammy Barr Keppley, Megan Bates; five great grandchildren Douglas Barr, Dylan Becker, Johanna Barr, Jessica Barr,and Kylie Becker.

Services will be held on Thursday, April 20, at 11:00 A.M. in the H. L. Snyder Funeral Home, Inc., Pine Grove, with Dr. Ira C. Lydic officiating. There will be a viewing on Thursday, April 20, at the Funeral Home, from 9:30 A.M. until time of service. Interment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Pine Grove.

The family would prefer, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Paul's United Methodist Church 19 E. Pottsville St. Pine Grove, PA 17963, in her memory.

Linda A. Shistle , 70, of 1001 Wade Road, St. Clair, formerly Frackvillle, died Saturday April 15, 2017 at Manor Care Health Services, Pottsville.

Born in Shenandoah, September 23, 1946, She was a daughter of the late Francis James and Eleanor (Lindenmuth) James.

She retired as a Driver from L&S Trucking, Brandonville escorting wide loads on the east coast.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul F. Shistle Sr. and a sister Eleanor Davis.

Surviving are 1 daughter Tracey Shistle and her Fiance George Rondeau of Pottsville; 2 sons Paul Shistle Jr. of Shavertown; Bryan Shistle of Pottsville; 9 grandchildren Paul Shistle, Toni Shistle, William Shistle, Skyler Shistle, Camryn Shistle, Vanessa Shistle, Dillon Shistle and Brodey Daubert both serving in the US Marine Corp, and Wyatt Rondeu; 1 Great Grandson Jacksen; 2 Brothers Francis and Robert James; 4 Sisters Marian Knittle; Helen Krantz, Ruth James and Janet Prosper. Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral Service will be held at 8:00 PM Friday from Nice- Hart Funeral Home, Inc, 9 North Lehigh Avenue Frackville. Friends may call from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM Friday at the Funeral Home, Inc. In honor of Linda please wear purple to her service. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to the funeral home to defray costs. Burial will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Susan M. Johnson, 62, of Center Street, Tamaqua, PA died on Friday, April 14, 2017 in Coaldale, PA. She was the wife of the late James T. Johnson who died in 2008. Born in Wiesbaden, Germany, Susan was a daughter of Francis and Vivian (nee Bachert) Hill of Tamaqua. She was preceded in death by her husband James T. Johnson in 2008. A 1974 graduate of Tamaqua Area School, Susan was a member of The Parish of St. John XXIII, Tamaqua. Along with her late husband, she was an avid bowler and enjoyed sewing. Susan loved spending time with her great nephews and nieces and always had a smile on her face, loving to make people laugh. Surviving with her parents are a daughter Kimberly Haldeman and her husband George of Tamaqua; brothers, Robert Hill and his wife Brenda and Frank Hill and his wife Susan; a sister Patricia Killian and her husband Ned; and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Besides her husband, she was predceased by a son Jeremiah Johnson in 1977 and by sisters Amy Hill and Deborah Chrobak. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua with Monsignor Edward Zemanik officiating. Interment in Sky View Memorial Park. Hometown, PA will follow the services. Call 6-8 PM on Wednesday, April 19 and 10-11 AM on Thursday, April 20 at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by the Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Tamaqua.
