Thousands of Rubber Ducks Race to Raise Money for Avenues

Thousands of rubber ducks raced down Mill Creek, Saint Clair,  Sunday afternoon to raise money for Avenues.

On Sunday, The Avenues Foundation hosted its 29th Annual Duck Race Sunday at the Walmart Supercenter in St. Clair.

The event began at 12:00 pm  and those who attended enjoyed food, entertainment, and carnival games.

Those attending were treated to God Bless America by Rita Gallagher, of Pottsville and the National Anthem by Katie Wildrick, of Tamaqua both members of Avenues.

The Rubber Duck race took place at exactly 3:32pm where organizers dropped over 5,500 ducks into Mill Creek.  They raced approximately a quarter mile where organizers waited to collect the first ducks as they arrived near the entrance to Coal Creek Plaza.

All proceeds from the event benefit Avenues programs, which have been providing services to children and adults with developmental and/or acquired disabilities in Schuylkill and the surrounding counties since 1952.

Avenues had set a goal of selling 5,000 ducks for the race but had already surpassed their goal prior to the event.
