Schuylkill County Grown Cooking Contest Announced

The Schuylkill County Agribusiness Committee has announced the 3rd Annual Schuylkill County Grown Cooking Contest, being held at the Schuylkill County Fair, which is the perfect setting to focus on locally grown agricultural products.

The contest will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. under the south overhang of the Main Exhibit Hall.

The Schuylkill County Grown program is designed to promote locally grown produce and other farm market products, such as milk, eggs, and even Christmas trees. Many people today are very interested in where their food comes from and how it is produced or grown. This program offers a way for producers and businesses to mark those products that are grown right here in Schuylkill County.

There will be two categories, adult and youth (under 18). For adults, we are asking you to prepare a slow cooker dish of your choice. Youth participants will be making a quick-bread, which can be in the form of a loaf, muffins, cake, etc. All entries must be prepared ahead of time, and be ready to serve at the time of the contest. The main rule for both categories is that each entry must contain at least three items that were grown in Schuylkill County. These could be items from a local farm market, retail store, or from your own garden.

To enter the contest, or for more information please contact Melissa Seigfried at the Schuylkill Conservation District at 570-622-3742 ext. 3324 or via email at mseigfried@co.schuylkill.pa.us. More information can also be found by visiting the Fair’s website at www.schuylkillfair.com or by visiting the Fair’s Facebook page or the Schuylkill County Grown’s Facebook page. Registration deadline for this contest is July 29th, 2017.
