Mary L. Rhoads, 93, of Hegins, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at her daughter's home.

Mary was born in Tremont, PA on August 20, 1923, a daughter of the late Catherine Elizabeth (Heintzelman) and Paul Henry Moore.

Mary graduated from West Chester State College with a degree in Music Education. She taught both the Elementary and High School Vocal and Instrumental classes for all of the schools in the Tri-Valley School Districts. After retiring from the school she taught private music lessons from her home.

Her life revolved around her family and music. She played the saxophone in numerous bands including Bob Rhoads and the Merimaids. They performed in many locations including Atlantic City, and the Poconos. She played several instruments but enjoyed playing piano the most. She was an avid Phillies fan, loved traveling especially to Cape May and spending winters in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert E. Rhoads, who passed away May 21, 2004; a sister Emma Elizabeth Neyer and a brother Arthur Henry Moore.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Janey L., wife of Randolph Wehry, Sr., of Klingerstown; a son, Dr. Robert E, husband of Joanne Rhoads, of Cape May, NJ; 5 grandchildren; Katie Rhoads Wolfgang, Hilary Rhoads Bruso, Josephine Wehry Masser, Janelle Wehry Poletti and Randolph Wehry, Jr. and 16 great grandchildren.

Viewing will be held on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 3-4 PM at the Salem Church of Rough and Ready, Klingerstown with the funeral service following at 4 PM with Rev. Mark Rothermel officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery.

Daisy L. Bordner, 83, of Dornsife, passed away Wednesday, July 26th, at the Manor at Susquehanna Village, Millersburg.

Daisy was born in Dornsife, on March 18, 1934, a daughter of the late Verna (Brown) and John Ferster.

She was the wife of Earl “Becky” A. Bordner who passed away July 8, 2010.

She graduated from the Mahanoy Joint High School. In her earlier years she worked in a local factory and later worked alongside her husband on their farm.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Red Cross and enjoyed baking cookies and quilting.

Daisy is survived by a brother, Guy, husband of Jean Ferster, of Dornsife; a sister-in-law Edna Ferster of Gratz; a brother-in-law Gene Bordner of Trevorton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ray Ferster and Mark and Charlotte Ferster, and three infant siblings

Viewing will be held Monday, July 31, 2017 from 10-11 AM at Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, Klingerstown, PA with the funeral service following at 11:00 AM with Rev. Raymond Brown officiating.

Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Halifax, PA.

Gladys F. Hartranft, 92, of Pottsville, passed away Wednesday at The Gardens at York Terrace, Pottsville.

Gladys was born in Cressona, Nov. 19, 1924, a daughter of the late Earl and Lulu Sweigert Butz.

She was the widow of Clarence Hartranft.

She was a member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Cressona, and was formerly employed by Cressona Knit.

Gladys is survived by daughters, Diana Long, wife of William, and Kathy Atkinson, wife of Gary; a son, David Hartranft, husband of Deb; grandchildren, Billie Jo Grohol, Brian Atkinson, Julie Atkinson Werdt, Amanda Hartranft Frantz and Tyler Hartranft; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Harner, Lucy and Jack Werdt, Amelia and Alaina Atkinson and Jackson Frantz.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Cressona Cemetery, Ash Street, Cressona, with the Rev. Doug Cresswell officiating. The family requests donations to the Cressona Little League Association, P.O. Box 100, Cressona, PA 17972.

Lloyd N. Schmerfeld, age 85, of Mahanoy City, died Wednesday at St. Luke's Hospital and Health Network Coaldale Campus. Arrangements will be announced upon completion.
