One Flown After Vehicle Collides With Utility Pole

A man was flown to the hospital after he was injured in a crash near Girardville late Thursday.


According to Girardville Police, around 5:00pm, emergency personnel were called to a motor vehicle accident in the 700 Block of East Main Street, Girardville.

After arriving at the scene police learned that the driver, Shawn Shoup, 42, of Girardville was travelling east on Main Street when he collided with a Verizon telephone pole on the left hand side of the roadway.

The impact knocked down the pole and caused fiber optic wires to lay on the roadway, closing the road.

Shoup was transported from the scene to the Girardville Little League Field where LVHN MedEvac 1 transported him to Geisinger in Danville.

The area of Main Street where the crash occurred will be closed until morning when Verizon will be on site to fix the wires and pole.

The crash is still under investigation by the Girardville Police Department.

Also assisting at the scene were the Girardville Fire Department, along with Ashland and Shenandoah Ambulance.
