"Prelude to the Coalcracker” Headlines Big Diamond Speedway This Week

As the season winds down at the Big Diamond Speedway, the “Money” races start to pick up.

Last Sunday it was the “Fayash Memorial” race for the Sportsman with Matt Stangle picking up the win. This Friday August 25 at the speedway it will be the annual “Prelude to the Coalcracker” feature for 358 Modifieds. Of course both of these races lead up to the biggest weekend of the year on Friday 9/1 and Sunday 9/3 when the speedway presents the annual “Coalcracker” weekend.

But first things first, this Friday is the Prelude to the Coalcracker. The mighty Steel and Metal Service Center 358 modifieds will compete in a 40 lap feature paying a cool $4,600 to the winner. Despite the weather issues that have seemed to target the speedway this year, the modified action has been superb each and every week. Point’s leader Craig Von Dohren leads the way and has been super fast each and every week. Behind Von Dohren you have a lot of hungry veterans looking to grab a share of the big money. Drivers such as Jeff Strunk and Ryan Godown each with one win this season are ready to get after it along with wily veterans Rick Laubach, Billy Pauch Jr and Duane Howard. Those three drivers have been shut out of the winner’s circle so far this season and would like nothing better than to grab a win going into the Coalcracker race weekend.

Two-time winner Brett Kressley will be looking to add to his win totals along with track regulars Shawn Fitzpatrick, Kevin Beach Jr, Scott Albert, Jared Umbenhaurer just to name few. The always fast Ryan Watt will also be making a trip to the speedway this Friday to try and get his new car dialed in for the following weekend. Also hearing that the “Handler” Doug Manmiller will also be making an appearance at the speedway this Friday driving for the injured Kyle Borror in the #B4.

The 358 Modifieds will also be taking part in a series of challenge races this Friday.

*This Friday’s show will be an OPEN DRAW for the Modifieds. All Modifieds will receive 100 show-up points.

While the modifieds will take center stage on Friday. The U.S.S. Achey Sportsman along with the Savage 61 Road Runners and the No Sweat Service Group Street Stocks will also take to the track on Friday. Each of these divisions has provided great racing action this year and will looking to do the same for the balance of the season.

As always, the gates open on Friday night at 5:30pm with warm-ups beginning at 7:30pm. General admission for Friday night’s show is $22.00, Senior admission is $20.00 and as usual kids under 12 and active military with ID are admitted free.

The track has deemed this Friday night as a “PURPLE OUT” night. Please wear your Purple!!

*Rain date for this show is Sunday August 27th. Heats will start one half hour earlier on Sunday at 7:00pm.
