Man in Custody After Hit and Run Friday Morning

A man is in custody on an arrest warrant after fleeing the scene of a crash Friday morning.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash occurred Friday morning around 10:45am on Main Street in Gilberton near the intersection with Shaft Street.

Police say the one vehicle, hit and run crash occurred as Thomas Beltran, 44, of Ashland was traveling eastbound. As Beltran was traveling eastbound, he failed to negotiate a left curve in the roadway, traveled off the southern berm and struck a guide wire for a utility pole and a tree.

Beltran then fled the scene in the vehicle and was later found in Girardville.

The vehicle sustained heavy front end damage.

Beltran was taken into custody on a unrelated arrest warrant and remanded to the Schuylkill County Prison.

Beltran will be cited for several traffic violations.

Police were assisted at the scene by Gilberton and Mahanoy Plane Fire Departments.
