Hiker Flown After Suffering Injuries in a Fall Saturday

A hiker was flown after suffering injuries in a fall on Saturday.

Around 5:00pm Saturday, emergency personnel responded to the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary for a search and rescue.

The Orwigsburg, Deer Lake, and New Ringgold Fire Departments responded for a hiker that was injured approximately 1 mile from the roadway.

Crews navigated the extremely rocky terrain with medical supplies in hand to reach the hiker where he was found to have fallen and suffered a head injury.

Fire Crews from Schuylkill and Berks counties carried the patient 2 miles along a path to an ATV which then transported the patient to an ambulance and then to a medical helicopter.
