Town Hall Meeting to Focus on Opioid Crisis in Schuylkill County

A town hall meeting scheduled for November 1st, 2017 will focus on the Opioid Crisis our community is facing.

The event is being hosted by the North Schuylkill School District,  in conjunction with Mr. Todd Zimmerman and with take place in the auditorium on Wednesday, November 1st at 6:00pm.

Overdosing of heroin has risen dramatically over the last few years. The users are not the usual suspects. Many young students, often athletes, obtain prescription painkillers for injuries.  Some of them become addicted and find their way to heroin, which is fairly inexpensive.

The goal of this event is to bring this issue to the people of the Mahanoy Area, North Schuylkill and Shenandoah Valley communities.

Anyone is invited to attend, but the goal of this event is to bring this issue to the people of the Mahanoy Area, North Schuylkill and Shenandoah Valley communities.  Each panelist will discuss problems that they see every day and how they deal with the opioid crisis.

Mr. Jason Snyder from the Pennsylvania Department of Health will be explaining addiction and government efforts to stop prescription use.

Dr. Ernest Sully from St. Luke’s Hospital will discuss why the opioid epidemic started. Then we will open the floor to a question and answer period.

The evening will end with an Opioid Epidemic Candidate Forum between District Attorney Christine Holman and Attorney Mike O’Pake, Challenger.
