Victim Identified in Fatal Thursday Night Crash

Police have identified a man that was killed in a 3 vehicle crash Thursday night in Pottsville.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, a 3 vehicle crash occurred on on Route 61 in area of Union Street, around 8:15pm.

Police have identified three people involved in the crash as Charles Maurer, 80, of Pottsville, Chad Bainbridge, 40, of Pottsville and an 18 year old.

Police have not released exact details on the crash but say that Bainbridge, was traveling southbound on Route 61 and Maurer was traveling northbound.  The 18 year old was involved in a secondary impact after the first two struck each other.

Maurer was pronounced dead at the scene, Bainbridge was injured and transported from the scene.  The 18 year old was not injured.

All involved vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

Pottsville fire companies American Hose, Good Intent and Yorkville assisted at the scene and Fire Police provided traffic control at the intersections of S Claude A Lord Blvd and E Norwegian St was well as S Claude A Lord Blvd and Mauch Chunk St. 

The accident resulted in S Claude Lord Blvd between E Norwegian St and Mauch Chunk St being closed for approximately four hours.

Pottsville Police and the Pennsylvania State Police are still working on the investigation and crash reconstruction.
