Bridge Work Near Girardville Nears Completion

Bridge work that began in July and was scheduled to be completed in September nears completion.

On July 5th, 2017, PennDOT closed Main Street, Girardville from the Route 54 Intersection in Homesville to Julia Street in the borough to replace the deck and perform other repairs on the bridge over Mahanoy Creek near Homesville.

Since then, traffic has been detoured around the borough using Route 54.

The bridge was originally scheduled to be completed by September 15th, 2017 and now over 2 months later, the final work is being completed.

Last week, work was seen being done to add the final guiderail to the sides of the bridges, but work since stopped.

According to Sean Brown, the Safety Press Officer for Engineering District 5, "We are currently awaiting guiderail from the manufacturer to complete the project. We expect to receive the materials this week and will be able to install it shortly after. Once that work is done we will be able to open the road to traffic."

Brown says the timeframe to receive and install the guiderail is an estimate.
