EDITORIAL: Schuylkill Haven - Our Town (and Area)

EDITORIAL:  Schuylkill Haven -  Our Town (and Area)

Submitted by Cecilia Michalik, The Greater Schuylkill Haven Area Business Association (GSHABA), President ‘17

After more than forty years living in cities , in the US and abroad and working for corporate America, I am proud to make the Schuylkill Haven area my home. I spent many summers and holidays visiting family here when I was a child, and I fell in love with the countryside and small town environment.

Our town is charming, it has a comfortable yesteryear quality with churches, a post office,  a railroad station, bakery, beauty salons, general stores, sandwich shop, candy and card store, a bed and breakfast, upscale consignment store, art center, professional offices , florists and even  a moonshine distillery! Most importantly it has opportunities for growth with available store fronts with unnamed potential.

Yes, the big box stores and the internet have changed how people shop, with attractive prices and selections. But more than ever consumers ( our neighbors and visitors) want a destination, a place to spend the day, shop, eat, visit the park, take some pictures, make some memories.

It is time to get involved and participate. Don’t let someone else do it…or do it tomorrow or next week…do it today. Shop local, support your local professionals: human resources, lawyers, insurance agents, doctors; go to the Halloween Parade, Memorial Day Parade, Borough Day, Walk, Wine & Wander, The Crabfest, Island Festival, GSHABA Christmas Party, Small Business Saturday, VRAJ Walkathon…the list goes on.

Help make a difference. As a resident all of us can support our local businesses, as a business join GSHABA, or as a non-business join as a honorary GSHABA member.

For more information about our sponsored activities and monthly meetings visit our Facebook page: The Greater Schuylkill Haven Area Business Association. Questions and feedback  are welcome please e-mail me at GSHABAinformation@gmail.com.

Oh… and see you around town!
