Mahanoy City Appoints New Chief of Police

On Tuesday evening, the Mahanoy City Borough Council held their monthly meeting and made an announcement regarding the appointment of a new police chief.


Council Vice President Francis Burke announced that the borough has appointed, Ken Zipovsky of Hazleton, as the new police chief.

He comes with experience working as Corporal for the Hazleton Police Department as well as previously working for the Weatherly Police.

"My passion has been local police department and being with communities and keeping that community safe"  said Zipovsky to those in attendance to the meeting.

His appointment was motioned contingent upon medical, psychological and background screenings.

Also during the meeting, the borough council motioned to name Officer Charles Kovalewski as Corporal.  A motion was also passed to advertise for an additional full time police officer.
