No Injuries Reported in Fiery Route 61 Crash on Thursday

No injuries were reported in a fiery crash on Route 61 near Pottsville on Thursday afternoon.

According to Pottsville Police, 1:50pm a 2000 Chrysler Cirrus being driven by a 19 year old Girardville man was traveling north on Route 61 in the left lane when he had to stop for a vehicle turning left onto Union Street.

Upon stopping the Cirrus was struck from behind by a tractor trailer being driven by Kimberly Diver, 51, of Middleport.

Diver told Police that she had been traveling north on Route 61 in the left lane and her attention was on the PennDOT Work in the area.

When her attention returned to the roadway in front of her she found the Cirrus stopped and she could not brake quickly enough to avoid striking it.

The impact caused the Cirrus to cross the two south bound lanes of traffic on Route 61 before coming to rest in shrubbery and catching fire.

No injuries were reported.

Assisting at the scene was Good Intent Fire Co., Pottsville.  The vehicle was towed from the scene by Womer’s Garage.

Diver will be cited for Careless Driving.
