Man Taken into Custody Who Led Police in Pursuit that Resulted in Crash

A man was taken into custody on Thursday who led police in a pursuit that resulted in two police cars colliding.



According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the incident occurred around 3:40pm on Wednesday when a State Police Trooper was in pursuit of a vehicle driven by Michael Flickinger, 42, of Port Carbon.

The pursuit was heading west on West Bacon Street in Palo Alto, when a borough police vehicle attempted to assist by blocking the eastbound lane of the roadway.  Flickinger travelled around the Palo Alto police vehicle and continued fleeing.  The Palo Alto Police officer attempted to clear the roadway but the State Police vehicle was unable to stop and struck the front of the borough police vehicle.

The Pennsylvania State Police vehicle then traveled a short distance and struck a utility pole at the intersection of West Bacon and Howard Street.

Both the trooper, identified as Trooper Tyler Brackman and Palo Alto Police officer, Sgt. Joe Kavanaugh were treated and released from an area hospital.

Flickinger fled the but was taken into custody by Pottsville Police on Thursday and arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Ferrier on charges of fleeing and attempting to elude police, recklessly endangering another person, and numerous traffic violations.  He was locked up in Schuylkill County Prison on $10,000 straight cash bail.
