Reception Celebrating Coal Region Breweries to Be Held This Saturday

The Tamaqua Historical society is holding a reception this weekend with exhibits, craft beer tasting, and reenactors.

This Saturday evening March 3, 2018 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, the Tamaqua Historical Society will present its opening reception for a new, large special exhibit titled “Coal Region Breweries” in the Tamaqua Museum Annex at 114 West Broad Street in Tamaqua.

The special reception is free and open to the public.

This is a 250th Anniversary of Anthracite celebratory event.

In addition to the large exhibit of 150 years of coal region brewing history, there will be beer tastings from three regional craft brewers including the Conyngham Brewing Company from outside of Hazleton, the Pilger Ruh Brewing Company from Pine Grove, and the soon to be opened Revere Brewing Company at the east end of Tamaqua next to Sisters Mexican Cantina.

Revere Brewing is one of two new micro-breweries opening in Tamaqua in the near future.

Representatives from the local craft beer club “Anthracite Girls Pint Out” will be helping out with the craft beer tasting. Stop by and find out more about their organization.

The large exhibit occupying most of the Tamaqua Museum Annex includes coal region breweriana such as a replica vintage bar, more than 80 antique beer trays, vintage beer barrels, kegs, cases, cans, bottles, advertising, taps, coasters, openers, coal miner tobaccos, local whiskey jugs, local bar tokens, Tamaqua brewery artifacts, a moonshine still, a 1923 classic coal region refrigerator loaded with contents, and a prohibition display.

Many artifacts are on loan from a number of private collections. The Tamaqua Area Historical Museum next door will also be open with free admission. Several reenactors will add to the coal region atmosphere with music on the old bar player piano, and other antics that are planned for this fun evening.

The historical society will offer snacks and other light refreshments to those who do not want to sample the craft beer brews.
