Pottsville Area Student Charged for Writing Threat on Desk

A Pottsville Area student was charged with writing a threat on a school desk on Monday.

According to Pottsville Police Chief Richard Wojciechowsky, around 2:15pm Monday, police were notified by Pottsville Area High School administration that a student had reported finding a threatening message written on a desktop in a classroom.

School officials were quickly able to isolate the time period during which it was written and identify a 15 year old 10th grade male student who had used the desk during that time.

Detective Joseph Welsh conducted an interview with the student who admitted to writing the threat on the desk.

As part of Welsh filing a juvenile allegation in Schuylkill County Court for the charges of Terroristic Threats and Persistent Disorderly Conduct, police contacted Schuylkill County Juvenile authorities who initiated supervision of the student to include continuous location monitoring and travel restrictions that do not allow him to leave his home property.

The Pottsville Area School District immediately placed the student on out of school suspension pending further administrative action.
