Teen Passenger Dies in Crash in Norwegian Township

A teen that was a passenger in a vehicle that crashed in Norwegian Township on Thursday afternoon has died.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the crash occurred around 5:30pm near 800 Ann Street, Norwegian Township, near Pottsville.

Troopers say a 17 year old female driver was driving a Chevrolet Monte Carlo and lost control on a left curve in the roadway while driving at a high rate of speed.  It was also raining at the time of the crash.

The vehicle struck a guide rail then overturned onto it's roof and struck a PPL utility pole.

Two passengers, Tyler Jennings, 24, of Pottsville, and a 17 year old that were seated in the back seat in the vehicle, were able to free themselves while the driver had to be extricated by emergency personnel.

A 17 year old front seat passenger was deceased upon arrival of emergency personnel.  It was not known if the teen was a wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, according to Troopers.

The two surviving passengers were transported to Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill by Schuylkill EMS while the driver was transported to Reading Hospital for their injuries.

Ann Street in the area of the crash was closed for several hours while the Utility Pole was repaired and the crash scene was investigated.
