Nearly 1,000 Pounds in Drugs Collected During Take Back Day in Schuylkill County

On April 24th, 2021, Schuylkill County Law Enforcement Agencies participated in National Drug Take Back Day.

The one day event was free of charge and open to everyone. The program is anonymous. 

All expired or unwanted controlled, non-controlled and over the counter medicines were accepted. The event did not include intra-venous solutions, injectables, syringes, or illegal substances.

The drugs are then disposed of properly by the Sheriff's Office.

According to Schuylkill County Sheriff Joseph Groody, this year's event collected 995lbs of drugs that filled 59 boxes.

Participating departments included Ashland, Butler Township, Coaldale, Frackville, Hegins Township, Mahanoy City, Minersville, Orwigsburg, Palo Alto, Pine Grove, Port Carbon, Rush Township, Saint Clair, Saint Luke's Miners Campus, Schuylkill Haven, Shenandoah, Tamaqua, West Mahanoy Township, McAdoo, and security of the Schuylkill County Courthouse.
