Woman Crawls for Help and is Found 4 Hours Later Following Interstate 81 Crash in Schuylkill County

A woman is recovering after she was found laying along Interstate 81 after being involved in a crash early Saturday.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the incident began around 5:00am, Saturday, July 24th, 2021 when Candace Sykes, 35, of Baltimore, MD was traveling north on Interstate 81 near mile marker 113.3 in Foster Township.  

Sykes reportedly veered off the roadway, travelled into a heavily wooded area in the median striking several trees and rolling several times.

At the time of the crash, nobody witnessed it happening or stopped to help.

Sykes was able to exit her vehicle and craw up an embankment back to Interstate 81 southbound.

Over 4 hours later, around 9:15am, a passing motorist spotted Sykes laying near a guide rail and called for help.

Sykes was transported via Tremont Ambulance to an area hospital where she was listed in serious condition.

State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
