Schuylkill County Man Identified as Driver Who Crashed into Chambersburg Fountain; Faces DUI Charges


A Schuylkill County man has been identified as the driver who crashed and severely damaged a fountain in Chambersburg earlier this month.

According to the Chambersburg Police, on Friday, December 17th, 2021, Gary Hummel, 40, of Pottsville was charged with Driving Under the Influence for the December 2nd, 2021 incident where he crashed an SUV into the Memorial Fountain on Lincoln Way in the Franklin County borough around 3:00am.

Hummel was said to be driving at a high rate of speed when he drove straight into the fountain, causing the vehicle to go airborne, and landing in the basin taking out the stem and nearby statues.

Earlier this month, prior to the pending test results, Hummel was charged with damage to unattended property.
