Two Face Child Endangerment Charges After Child Found Malnourished and Covered in Bug Bites in Mount Carbon

A man and woman from Mount Carbon are facing child endangerment charges after a young girl was malnourished and covered in bug bites.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Knepp from the Schuylkill Haven Barracks, earlier this year Schuylkill County Children and Youth removed a 3 year old girl from custody of her parents, Ryan Sonnon, 32, and Abigail Sonnon, 30, at their home at 89 Main Street in Mount Carbon.

After the child was removed from the home, she was found to have been malnourished to the point she required medical attention to prevent further serious bodily injury or even death.  She was also found be suffering from extreme dental decay due to her poor diet and also found to be covered in insect bites from bed bugs and an extreme lice infestation.

From the investigation that began in early 2021, State Police obtained arrest warrants for the Ryan and Abigail on December 23rd, 2021 for felony charges of endangering the welfare of children, and misdemeanor charges for recklessly endangering another person.

On December 24th, 2021, both Ryan and Abigail were located at a home in Mahanoy City and taken into custody.

Both were arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Stephen Bayer and committed to Schuylkill County Prison with bail being set at $10,000 straight cash bail for Ryan and 10% of $10,000 bail for Abigail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 3rd, 2022 before Magisterial District Judge James Reiley.

RETRACTION:  In the original posting, we posted that the child was removed from the parents' custody earlier this month.  That was incorrect, the child was removed from their custody several months ago.
