Pottsville Man Dies Months After Suffering Injuries in Sanitation Truck Accident

A Pottsville man has died from his injuries he suffered several months ago in an accident in the city.

According to the Lehigh County Coroner's Office, Kerry Spiess, 36, of Pottsville was pronounced dead Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at Lehigh Valley Hospital Cedar Crest.  

On September 6th, 2022, Spiess was working on a sanitation truck around 8:00am in the 100 Block of North Progress Avenue, Pottsville when the truck backed into a street sign.

Spiess reportedly stepped down from the back of the truck, onto a sidewalk, when he was struck by the falling sign, causing him to fall to the ground hitting his head.

The Coroner's Office ruled Spiess' cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head.

In addition to the coroner's office, the death was investigated by the Pottsville City Police.
