Man Fires Gun at Two Men Breaking into His Pottsville Apartment; Two Taken into Custody


Two men are were taken into custody after breaking into an apartment in Pottsville late Tuesday.

According to the Pottsville Bureau of Police, on Tuesday, January 10th, 2023, around 10:30pm, city police were dispatched to a breaking and entering that occurred in the 1500 block of West Market St. 

Responding officers received information that 2 persons wearing masks and hoodies kicked in the door of an apartment that was rented and occupied by a 21-year-old Pottsville male. 

Officers were informed that the offenders had fled westbound on foot. 

As officers were arriving in the area, they observed two persons running and matching the physical description. 

Caleb Evans, 19, and Adan Twigg, 18, both of Pottsville were apprehended by officers. 

Upon further investigation, officers determined that Mr. Evans and Mr. Twigg broke into the home of the victim in an attempt to assault him. 

Both Mr. Evans and Mr. Twigg fled the location after the 21-year-old victim used a lawfully possessed firearm and fired multiple rounds at the offenders while they were inside the residence. 

Mr. Evans and Mr. Twigg were charged with Burglary, Conspiracy to Commit Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Conspiracy to Commit Criminal Trespass, Possessing Instruments of Crime, Simple Assault - Criminal Attempt, Loitering and Prowling at Night, Trespass and Harassment. 

They were arraigned by on-call Magisterial District Justice Bayer and both committed to Schuylkill County Prison, unable to post $5,000 at 10%.

Both were released on Wednesday after posting bail.
