Two Hazleton Men Flown to Hospital After Interstate 81 Crash in Schuylkill County


Two men from Hazleton were seriously injured Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County.
According to Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville, the crash happened around 4:39 p.m. on I-81 South near mile marker 140.2 in Delano Township.

Troopers said a 2007 Acura TL was traveling in the left southbound lane when it left the roadway and struck an embankment along the west shoulder.

The driver, identified as Geomar Medina, and his passenger, Zavier Rosario Rodriguez, both of Hazleton, suffered injuries of unknown severity. Both men were flown by medical helicopter to Lehigh Valley Hospital–Cedar Crest in Allentown for treatment.

Fire crews from Delano Fire and Ryan Fire performed extrication to the trapped occupants.

McAdoo Fire handled the LZ at the Delano ball field.

Ems from McAdoo, APTS, and Shenandoah handled patient care.

State Police said Medina will be cited for the crash.
