The Pennsylvania State Police at Frackville are investigating a wire fraud incident that occurred at the McDonald’s restaurant located at the former Schuylkill Mall property in New Castle Township.
According to troopers, the incident took place on October 22, 2025, around 9:13 a.m. Investigators say a 20-year-old woman from Barnesville, who was working at the restaurant, received a phone call from an unknown suspect who initially contacted the store and later reached her on her personal cell phone.
The suspect allegedly convinced the employee to retrieve money from the restaurant’s safe for what was described as a “delivery.” Following the caller’s instructions, the victim handed over a portion of money from the restaurant’s safe as well as additional funds from her own personal account.
Authorities say the transactions were completed using a Bitcoin kiosk and the Cash App mobile payment service. The total loss amounted to approximately $3,360.
State Police continue to investigate the incident. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Frackville barracks at 570-874-5300.
