Vehicle Crashes Under Tractor Trailer in Butler Township, Victim Airlifted to Hospital


A driver was flown to an area hospital after a crash near Frackville involving a tractor trailer on Thursday.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 6:15 p.m. Thursday to the area of 5th Street and Oak Street in the Englewood section of Butler Township, Frackville, for a serious motor vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and a tractor trailer.

According to information relayed to responding personnel, the passenger vehicle became wedged underneath the tractor trailer upon impact.

Fire and emergency personnel from Englewood and Frackville responded to the scene and requested an additional heavy rescue unit from Mahanoy City to assist with the extrication. Crews worked for approximately 30 minutes to safely remove the victim from the vehicle.

Once extricated, the victim was transported by ambulance to the helipad near the former St. Catherine’s Hospital in Fountain Springs and flown by medical helicopter to an area hospital. The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately known.

Oak Street was closed for several hours while emergency crews conducted rescue operations and cleared the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
